Last year the Buckners realized that everyone in their family was “paired up” in age except for Isaiah, but when they went to an adoption matching event, 190 of the 200 children available were teenagers. “We were just heartbroken at the thought of how many placements these kids had been through.
They were old enough to understand that they probably weren’t going to be adopted. We knew that we were going to bring home a teenager,” said Andrew. Michelle was one of the oldest children in the system to be adopted.
