Alicia & Andrew’s Story
When Alicia and Andrew met and married, each of them had a son and a daughter. When an acquaintance was unable to care for her newborn, Isaiah joined their family.

Alicia was volunteering in Sunday school when she met ten-year-old David and eight-year-old Davina, who needed an adoptive family willing to take them both. Last year the Buckners realized that everyone in their family was “paired up” in age except for Isaiah, but when they went to an adoption matching event, 190 of the 200 children available were teenagers. “We were just heartbroken at the thought of how many placements these kids had been through.

They were old enough to understand that they probably weren’t going to be adopted. We knew that we were going to bring home a teenager,” said Andrew. Michelle was one of the oldest children in the system to be adopted.

Every transition has been scary as we see it coming up over the horizon, but none has been as hard as we initially feared. We’ve stopped trying to guess how many children we’ll have since we haven’t gotten it right yet. We don’t know what God has in store for us,” said Andrew. The Buckners are experiencing the ripple effect of the one factor.
