Kelly & John’s Story

Kelly held his infant son for the first time in jail as he awaited sentencing on a felony conviction. It was only thirty minutes but Kelly memorized every detail of John’s tiny features. Over the next fourteen years, Kelly’s passion to become a good father drove him to earn his Associates degree and attend every parenting or anger management class offered. He signed John up to receive Christmas gifts from the Angel Tree program. He needed his son to know that he loved him and was trying to get back to him. His contact with John was sporadic. Some short letters, some terse phone conversations and an occasional Father’s Day card. John grew into a young man. After serving every day of his sentence, Kelly was released. Kelly immediately began working on his reunification plan. John was taken into foster care. Kelly was soon granted custody and they are making the most of their second chance.
